Introducing Manual Sort for Patient Acuity

We understand that patient acuity is a critical factor in providing timely and appropriate care. To better serve this need, we are launching the Manual Sort feature, now available for both human and animal hospitals. This new tool allows staff to manually sort and prioritize patients in the first column based on their acuity levels, ensuring that those who need urgent care are seen promptly.

Key Benefits:

  • Enhanced Triage Efficiency: Quickly identify and prioritize high-acuity patients.
  • Improved Patient Outcomes: Ensure timely care for those in critical condition.
  • Customizable Sorting Criteria: Tailor the sorting process to meet the specific needs of your facility.

We believe this enhancement will significantly improve the workflow and patient care quality in emergency settings.

Turning On Manual Sort

First, navigate to the Menu Bar and click on Online/Walk-In Module, choose Patient Queue Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the page to Manual Sort and slide the radio button to "Yes" and click "Save".

Next, navigate back to the menu and click on Reservation Form Settings. Scroll to Visit Type and open. You now have the ability to choose acuity levels for Manual Sorting. Under "Department List", choose a visit type for sorting, then click on the pencil symbol to edit.

In the box labeled "Priority", use the dropdown menu to choose from numbers 1-5. The highest acuity being 5 and 1 being the lowest. Click on "Save".

Next, the 3 radio buttons labeled Walk in, Check in and Patient Queue allow for the Visit Types to be displayed to the patient during the reservation process.

Another option is to only turn on Patient Queue and let the staff determine the visit type(s) for the patient.

Once visit types are assigned an acuity score, navigate back to the menu and click on Patient Queue. In the upper right hand corner of the New Patient Queue you can sort by selecting Visit Type or Custom from the dropdown. Sorting ONLY occurs in the first column.

Choosing Visit Type automatically sorts the patient cards by the assigned 1-5 acuity status.

Choosing Custom from the dropdown menu allows you to manually move the cards using the up and down arrows or clicking and dragging the patient card to prioritize acuity status based on the patient's condition. (below image from demo site not real patients).

When you manually sort the patient cards, the it will put a number to the right of the card which indicates where you are in the queue to been seen. For example, if the card has a 4 that means your are 4th in the queue to be seen.
